Vinyl Crisis pays tribute to one of the great musicians of the 20th Century, Grammy Award winner Cal Tjader. Vic and Ben have been lucky enough to interview a handful of Cal’s finer collaborators including Eddie Palmieri, Airto and Chuck Rainey.
Over a career spanning 40 years, Cal released almost 80 albums (almost two new records for each year of his recording life). A Fantasy records legend who then moved to Verve in the mid 60s, Cal was Missouri born (to Swedish parents) percussionist and drummer who later moved to the Vibraphone. He spent his life performing all over the world and resided for mush of it on the west coast. As a non Latino man, his influence on both Latin and Jazz worlds remains untouched and all who knew him speak so highly…Vinyl Crisis had to discuss what his music means to us. Enjoy and spread the word!
